After TV channel boom, now it is the turn of FM radio stations in Kerala. And all those who matter in the field of media and entertainment are starting their FM stations.
Club FM, the new FM radio station of the Mathrubhumi group launched in Thrissur on Friday. This is the fourth FM radio station in Kerala, thirteen more will go on air soon in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kochi and Thrissur.
The core content of the radio station will be film music and interactive programmes but the promoters plan to air awareness programmes on health and civic issues as well.
''We are launching here and in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi will be launch soon,'' said Shreyams Kumar, CLUB FM.
Malayala Manorama has also launched its FM station Mango in Thrissur on Friday. It is just the beginning of a new war as both groups are set to launch FM stations across major towns and cities mainly targeting the youth, women, commuters, office goers and IT professionals.
With Kerala having a sizeable number of radio listeners even Tamil Nadu's Sun Network is trying its luck in five cities with its Suryan FM besides Big FM and Radio Mirchi who are planning to launch in Thiruvananthapuram.
According to rough estimates Kerala has about half a crore cable connections which means that a majority of the three and a half crore Malayalee population is still not exposed to cable network. Clearly, FM radio intends to target this section with a mix of edutainment, infotainment and entertainment programmes.
