| Millions celebrate Bakr Id |
| Greeting the nation on the occasion, President Pratibha Patil asked the countrymen to work towards progress and prosperity of the nation.

| Muslims across the world are today celebrating Id-al-Adha or the ''Festival of the Sacrifice'', which commemorates Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son at God's command.
Thousands gathered in mosques to pray early this morning before feasting with their family and friends. The Id-al-Adha or Bakr Id also marks the end of the annual pilgrimage, the Haj.
Greeting the nation on the occasion, President Pratibha Patil asked the countrymen to work towards progress and prosperity of the nation.
Vice President Hamid Ansari also called upon the people to celebrate the festival with compassion and serve the cause of humanity.
On his part, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed hope that the festival would further strengthen the cultural bonds of the country and usher in joy and prosper.
