Missing UP cop resurfaces
And then, he went missing in January 2007. But last night, almost a year later, he resurfaced. He walked into a police post at Ghaziabad.
 INDIA , 2-January-2008  0:23:3 AM
It is a case that became an embarassment for the Delhi Police. The force came under attack by its own men.

Suspended Inspector Balbir Singh hit the headlines, when he publicly accused Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul of ruling with an iron fist and taking arbitrary decisions.

And then, he went missing in January 2007. But last night, almost a year later, he resurfaced. He walked into a police post at Ghaziabad.

The Delhi Police is now interrogating him. Balbir Singh said he had been dropped near Ghaziabad by three men, who had been allegedly hiding him outside Delhi.

His son Ajay had moved the Delhi High Court after his disappearance.

''Balbir Singh came to the police station and he told us that he was kidnapped a year back.

Three men had left him here. We noted the details and informed his family and Delhi Control Room. His family confirmed that he had been missing for a year. He could still be recognized,'' said Ashutosh Singh, Station Officer, Tulsi Niketan Police Post.

''I had gone to the dispensary to get some medicine. As I returned to my vehicle, three men

nabbed me and threatened me. I was taken in a car and after about 6 hours we stopped and

I was locked in a room, '' said Balbir Singh, Claimant.

''We rushed to the spot as soon as he called us. He's not in a good state,'' said Shyam Kumari,Wife, Balbir Singh.

In their case filed in the court, the family members blamed Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul for his disappearance and alleged that the police were harassing them.

The case became an embarassment for the police for coming under attack by their own men. The Delhi High Court directed the police force to find the missing cop at the earliest.

The court had asked the Delhi Police to either find Balbir Singh and present him before them or tell whether he's dead or alive.
