The seven-month old Goa government may be on the verge of collapse as three NCP MLAs threatened to withdraw from the coalition.
However, Congress Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is hoping that NCP chief Sharad Pawar's intervention may help the situation.
Pawar has reportedly assured the Congress that the NCP would not withdraw support.
He added that he would speak to the three NCP MLAs, two of whom quit Kamat's cabinet on Wednesday and try and convince them to stick to the government.
But NCP legislature party leader Jose Philip D'Souza told NDTV that his party has already withdrawn support and is firmly behind the decision.
He also said that the party is even exploring the option of forming a separate party in the state if required.
This means that Sharad Pawar may not be able to rescue the Congress-led government.
If the NCP goes ahead and withdraws support and Independent MLA Vishwajeet Rane sticks to his decision to quit, the Digambar Kamat government will be reduced to a minority of 19.
