| Godrej family faces Ulema's ire over Rushdie

| The All India Ulema Association on Thursday said socialite and member of the Godrej industries family Parmeshwar Godrej should apologise to the Muslims for hosting controversial author Salman Rushdie, failing which it would ask community members to boycott the company's products.
''Despite knowing the fact that Rushdie has hurt the Muslim sentiments by making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed and terming Quran's preachings as Satanic Verses, the owner of Godrej group, Parmeshwar Godrej hosted the author. This is an insult to the Muslims of India,'' Association President Maulana Sayed Athar Ali said in a release here.
''It was due to Rushdie's writings that 12 innocent youth lost their lives, when police fired on a protest march in February 1989. Godrej should immediately tender an apology otherwise the Muslim community will boycott all Godrej products,'' he said.
