CPI(M) releases draft political resolution
 INDIA , 21-January-2008  3:20:40 AM
The CPI(M)'s draft political resolution is out in the public domain now. The document, up for debate among comrades talks about the party's long term political plans.

Not too impressed with the UPA's economic or foreign policies, the CPI(M) seems to rule out a pre-poll alliance with the Congress.

But, they admit, it is a secular party and they may agree to support it again if there's a fragmented verdict.

''I don't know what I say in 2009. But I can tell you we still want a secular government and a government that fights neo liberal policy. The question is how do we really do that,'' said Prakash Karat, General Secretary, CPI(M).

One way to do that is to get the numbers, more MPs in Lok Sabha to influence policy. But to do that they will have make their presence felt across India instead of Bengal, Kerala and Tripura.

The other way is the third alternative the CPI(M) has been talking about for a while now.

''We will try for a third alternative based on a common understanding of economic policies It will not be a mere electoral alliances. It will be long-term thing. We will have alliances with secular parties to fight communalism, neo-liberal policies and imperialism,'' added Karat.

The draft resolution, however gives no new insight into the fate of the suspended nuclear deal. Their stand on the US continues to be the same even though there is no specific mention of the 'N' word.

In fact, even the Left seems to have tired of it now. ''I don't want to talk about the N-deal. I am fed-up of it now,'' concluded Karat.
