| Centre to amend organ transplantation laws

| The Centre has decided to amend the laws to liberalise the Organ Transplantation Act. Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has said there will be stiffer punishment for illegal organ trade.
Earlier, the health ministry decided to seek a CBI inquiry into the kidney trade racket.
The move comes a day after an Interpol alert was issued for the mastermind of a multi-crore kidney transplant racket, one branch of which was uncovered in Gurgaon near the capital.
Dr Amit Kumar whose kidney racket was busted last week has been on the run ever since and the police now suspect he could have fled the country, possibly to Nepal.
In Moradabad, where most of Dr Kumar's donors came from, the police said it has evidence that another three doctors worked with Dr Kumar. All the three doctors are missing
