Flight movement at the Indira Gandhi International airport came to a standstill after dense fog enveloped the area, reducing the runway visibility to around 100 metres on Wednesday morning.
''As of now no flight movement, take off or landing, is taking place due to the heavy fog,'' airport officials said.
The Runway Visibility Range (RVR) dropped to 100 metres at around 6.15 am (IST) suddenly, they said.
The poor RVR forced the authorities to implement Low Visibility Procedures (LVP). Though some flights took off using CAT-3B system, about 10 flights scheduled to take off, were delayed by two to three hours.
Winter capers
Delhi, which is supposed to be shivering in February, is suddenly looking at minimum temperatures of close to 9 degrees, which is warm by the usual standards. The only dampener is the fog, which has reappeared after practically a month.
Meanwhile, Mumbai, which is expected to head for warmer weather much earlier, is shivering at close to the same 9 degrees. It also happens to be the lowest February temperature for the city in 40 years. (With PTI inputs)
