Fresh tension is brewing in Kalinga Nagar in Orissa's Jajpur district where 13 anti-displacement protestors were killed in police firing 2 years ago.
Kalinga Nagar is tense following police raids to nab some leaders of the local anti-displacement agitation with alleged Maoist links. But the Jan Manch which sees the police action as a veiled attempt to crush their 2-year-old agitation against the Tata Steel Project has said it will not allow police to enter their villages.
''We have had no links with any ultras. The real motive behind the police raids is to help Tata Steel build its factory. We condemn and oppose police entry for so-called anti-naxal operations,'' said Rabi Jarika, Secretary, Visthapan Virodhi Jan Manch, Kalinga nagar.
But the police is firm they have strong evidence against the two leaders, especially after interrogating wanted Maoist leader Narasingalu who was arrested a week ago.
''We are not targeting Visthapan Virodhi Jan Manch. Our action is against those who had links with Anna Reddy alias B Narasingalu, they are the ones we want to arrest and interrogate,'' said DS Kutte, SP, Jajpur.
The protestors are bracing up for police raids. Trenches have been dug, barricades erected across the link roads and an undercurrent of violence is in the air.
