With just two weeks to go before Board exams begin, lakhs of students have been staying up night after night for the final lap of their incredibly tough preparations.
What's worrying is that students have been popping vitamins and pills to boost their energy.
One of the students Garima, takes as many as four pills a day. She says they help her cope with 18 hours of studies.
''We are so pressurized. We have to crack the competitive exams and also get above 90 per cent in the Board exams to get into a good college. These pills at least make you feel that if you are taking them they are helping you. One feels optimistic about things at least psychologically,'' said Garima.
She takes vitamin pills that are sold over the counter, but there's a health warning.
''Unsupervised and high doses of vitamins can cause vitaminosis that can in turn lead to burping, tummy upset, headaches,'' said Monika Mahajan, Doctor, Internal Medicine.
Exams are round the corner and students often resort to several re-energising methods to stay up all night, not realising that they can have negative consequences in the long run.
What students tend to take most are capsules high in Vitamin B, because they think it helps improve memory and concentration.
''Kids come here to ask for medicines like Becosule. Demageen is also a popular medicine,'' said Ranjan, a chemist.
Two years ago, a medicine called Memory Plus was withdrawn from the market.
For 10 years, it was sold over the counter and was popular with students but doctors found it had dangerous long-term effects.
Another student Bhanupriya, fights her exhaustion with at least eight cups of coffee but that has side effects as well.
Caffeine can cause gastroenteritis, headache, while black tea and coffee are especially bad for the health.
So eat right, try to get reasonable hours of sleep every night and stay calm - is the friendly advice from doctors to all the students dealing with last-minute pressure
