Raj, Azmi arrests evoke mixed r ...
''The action against the two leaders were taken after unpardonable delay,'' the former Deputy Chief Minister said.
 INDIA , 14-February-2008  0:16:59 AM
The arrests of MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi evoked mixed reactions from the political parties.

BJP General Secretary Gopinath Munde criticised the Congress-led Government for the ''unpardonable'' delay in arresting the two leaders who created law and order problems in the state.

''The action against the two leaders were taken after unpardonable delay,'' the former Deputy Chief Minister said.

He said whatever action has been taken is only because of pressure from the Centre.

''In the last eight days when ordinary people of the city were living in perpetual fear, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister were not present in Mumbai. This shows utter lack of seriousness on the part of the government on this issue.''

Maharashtra BJP President Nitin Gadkari said the government had failed to maintain law and order in the state.

''Had the government taken action on the day when they made inflammatory statements, the law and order situation would not have deteriorated to this extent.''

Mumbai Congress President and MP Gurudas Kamat lauded the police for arresting the two leaders and expressed the hope that they would prepare a watertight case against them.

''We hope the police will prepare a watertight case to ensure both leaders are brought to book to set an example for all others who take law in their hands.''
