Delhi Police ASI in the net

 INDIA , 15-February-2008  9:11:5 AM
In the latest development in the multi-crore kidney racket, the Delhi Police have arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Ravinder Singh for taking bribe from Dr Upendra, one of the accused.

The crime branch has filed a case of extortion against seven policemen including the ASI. All seven policemen allegedly took bribe from the accused.

Though the ASI has been arrested, constables are still absconding.

''ASI Ravinder Kumar Singh was arrested on Thursday for accepting a bribe of more than Rs 19 lakh from the driver of Dr Upendra,'' said Satyendra Garg, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Delhi Police.

Efforts are on to nab the policemen on the run and raids are being conducted in various parts of the city to catch them, Garg added.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that all the seven cops with the special Branch of Delhi Police's central district allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 19 lakh last month from the driver of Dr Upendra, one of the main accused.

Garg further said that a case under Section 384 of IPC (extortion) has been slapped against the policemen.

If found guilty, they could be jailed for up to three years or fine or may be both.

Interrogations

A CBI team on Friday also questioned the in-laws of Amit Kumar, alleged kingpin in the multi-crore kidney transplant racket, to know the whereabouts of his family members.

The agency is trying to locate the place where Kumar's family is living in Canada so that it could firm up its report about the investments made by him in that country, the officials said, adding the information needed to be shared with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

A police team from Muzaffarnagar had arrived in Jammu to raid the house of Kumar's wife on February 4 but failed to locate the address and has gone back.
