| Congress President Sonia Gandhi met Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati at her residence on Sunday night.
It was a secret meeting, apparently on the request of the UP chief minister, who has been hitting out at the Congress leadership and threatening to withdraw support to the UPA government.
Also present were Sonia's children Rahul and Priyanka at what is being called a courtesy call.
''Why can't two politicians meet over dinner what is wrong,'' said Margaret Alva, General Secretary, Congress.
With each election, Mayawati has been eating into the vote share of the Congress.
Of late, relations between the two parties had soured, with each making personal attacks against the other.
But the dinner meeting seems to have offered food for thought.
''There should not be any problems as there should be no personal attacks against each other,'' said Digvijay Singh, General Secretary, Congress.
But the Congress will have to explain what caused the sudden change of heart.
