Identifying Information Technology as a key area, the Left Front government in Kerala on Wednesday said it plans to develop IT and Knowledge hubs across Kerala without diluting its commitment to agricultural and traditional sectors and welfare of the working class.
Kerala Governor R L Bhatia in his address to the state assembly said a pension scheme for farmers, extension of the BPL insurance scheme to all districts and care homes and ''elders parks'' for senior citizens were also on the anvil.
Spelling out plans to promote tourism in 'God's own country', Bhatia said the thrust would be on creation of infastructure and new packages without harming the environment.
Stating that tourism continued to be a fast growing sector, Bhatia said a White Paper on 'responsible tourism' would be brought soon to guide future policy initiatives.
In keeping with its political commitment, Bhatia said the government would go ahead with the campaign to recover vast stretches of land held illegally by what he said as 'big guns.'
To mark their protest on the government's stand on the HMT land issue, the Congress-led UDF opposition raised placards and banners in the house but did not disrupt the delivery of the governor's address.
The UDF had been demanding the Industries and Revenue ministers' resignation, charging them with collusion in the sale of land by HMT to a private IT venture at Kalamassery in Kochi.
