Wait period for LPG refill comes
A senior IOC official said that the change was essentially due to the commissioning of a new bottling plant of Indian Oil Tanking Limited in Ennore.
 INDIA , 23-February-2008  3:33:10 AM
The wait by households for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refill cylinders of market leader Indian Oil Corporation has come down to two-three days beyond the mandatory three-week gap between two supplies.

Sources among Indane distributors said the improvement has been made possible with the supply of additional loads to clear the backlog. The waiting period for the refill supplies had recently risen to as many as 10 days beyond the 21-day restriction with many distributors.

A senior IOC official said that the change was essentially due to the commissioning of a new bottling plant of Indian Oil Tanking Limited in Ennore. The facility, located nearly 5 km from the bottling plant of IOC, has two carousels and a capacity to bottle 100 loads daily. A load is slightly over 300 domestic cylinders. In addition, IOC had asked Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited to continue with the LPG bottling operations at its refinery in Manali for some more time.

Noting that the company and its distributors were working even on Sundays to clear the backlog, the official said if the present situation was any indication, IOC would resume issue of new connections from March 1. But, the company would like to wait and watch before clearing the wait list for double bottle connection (second cylinder).

LPG refill supplies, according to distributors, have been awry since December last. Besides the seasonal increase in the demand, supplies were hit on account of panic booking by households, holidays and the monsoon.

The distributors added that the situation was also a result of many households promptly booking the next refill on the 22nd day.
