| Chief of Deobandis, Maulana Marghoobur Rahman in his address to an assembly of clerics said that terrorism is completely wrong, a thoughtless act and against the teachings of Islam.
Darul Uloom Deoband, the most influential school for Islamic law in Asia, is hosting a meeting of ulemas from more then 6000 madrasas across the country, to debate terrorism.
Some 10,000 clerics from all tenets of Islam in India are attending it.
They will also discuss of a possible fatwa against terrorism. The top level scholars are likely to announce terror acts as fundamentally un-Islamic.
Arch rivals Barelvis votaries, of a ''softer'' line of Islam and known as opponents of Deobandis are also present.
Darul Uloom Deoband was established in the late 19th century and has adherents from Afghanistan and Pakistan to the whole of Southeast Asia.
The Taliban have often claimed adherence to Deoband, which has been strongly repudiated by the Deobandis.
