Indiana University students have access to more than 4000 computers housed in the 130 plus student technology centers at its eight campuses. A wide area network (WAN) spans the institution’s campuses, with several local area networks (LANs) and virtual private networks (VPNs). It is also home to one of the largest university-owned supercomputers in the nation. UITS, the division that officially provides academia and the university’s community with technical IT support, runs a help desk 24x7. I worked there as a telephone consultant, having the following responsibilities:
Ø Troubleshooting network issues (LAN, VPN, WAN).
Ø Troubleshooting PC and Apple Mac hardware, software and security issues.
Ø Publishing WAN, critical server downtimes and mission critical system issues on the university’s web board.
Ø Giving technical advice on Windows platforms from XP through to 95, and Apple Mac OS X.
Ø Giving technical advice on email clients -MS Outlook, Outlook Express, Pine, Netscape Messenger, Eudora, and Webmail (web email client developed at the institution).

Ø Supervised and instructed a JAVA object oriented programming (OOP) course to class sizes of about 30 graduate and undergraduate business and computer science major-students (covering Java Swing and GUIs, exception handling, recursion, data structures, threads and concurrent programming, files and streams, and sockets and client/server network programming)
Ø Supervised, instructed and did grading for an MS Office and HTML course in Intel and Apple Macintosh environments to class sizes of about 30 freshman and sophomore students.
