A rare treat is in store for denizens of the Twin Cities! Well known Minneapolis based Hindustani (North Indian classical) vocalist, composer and teacher, Dr. Pooja Goswami Pavan, will be presenting "Songs of Kabir" on Saturday, September 13 at the Premanand Theater at the Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN. She will be accompanied on the Tabla by her husband and musical partner, Dr. A. Pavan. Dr. Kedar Naphade from NJ will provide harmonium accompaniment.
A special feature of this presentation will be live interpretation of Kabir's poetry by the renowned scholar of Kabir from Stanford University, Prof. Linda Hess. Prof. Linda Hess is a faculty in the Dept. of Religious Studies at Stanford University and is well known for her body of work on Kabir's poetry, having worked on a number of literary and film projects on the subject.
Kabir was an iconoclastic Indian poet-saint revered by Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs alike. His poetry is one for the ages; it is just as relevant today as it was in the 15th century, for the universal message of love it espouses.
